Senate Confirms Lawyer As US Attorney In New Orleans

 

NEW ORLEANS (AP) — A defense lawyer has been confirmed as the U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Louisiana.

News outlets report the U.S. Senate confirmed Peter Strasser into the position Tuesday. Duane Evans had been in the role on an interim basis since early March 2017. Kenneth Polite had resigned from the U.S. Attorney post as part of the change in administrations from Barack Obama to President Donald Trump.

Strasser is currently a partner at the Chaffe McCall law firm in New Orleans and previously served as assistant U.S. Attorney for Louisiana's Eastern District. He is also a retired Navy Reserve captain who served in the Judge Advocate General's Corps.

The U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Louisiana has jurisdiction in parishes that include Assumption, Jefferson, Lafourche and Orleans.
