Second Line For Safety Announced As Benefit For FQ Task Force

NEW ORLEANS – French Quarter Advocates, representing the residents and businesses of one of America’s oldest neighborhoods, announced it will host its first “Second Line for Safety” to support the French Quarter Task Force on Saturday, October 3, 2015, from 11:00 a.m. till 4:00 p.m. at Congo Square in Armstrong Park.

“Second Line for Safety” is this year’s major fundraising event for the newly organized 501 (c) 3 nonprofit Advocates group, and organizers hope it will become one of New Orleans premier annual traditions.

The traditional second line event will begin at 1:00 p.m. at Congo Square and proceed through the streets of the historic French Quarter with a renowned New Orleans brass band leading the parade. The event will feature prominent musical bands, popular local DJ’s and neighborhood food trucks before, during and after the parade.

French Quarter Advocates was established in 2014 with a mission to protect the French Quarter as a working neighborhood with an inclusive and diverse residential and commercial population while preserving its unique culture, architectural integrity and music heritage. “We want the entire city and all our visitors who will be in town that weekend to come support one of the country’s most iconic and historic destinations,” said French Quarter Advocates President Bryan Drude.

All of the proceeds from the Second Line for Safety will benefit the French Quarter Task Force, which is committed to protecting everyone who lives, works and visits the French Quarter.

Second Line participants can register online or register at Congo Square on the day of the event between 11:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m.   Registration for the inaugural procession to keep the French Quarter safe is $25 for French Quarter Advocates members and $40 for non-members.
