NEW ORLEANS, La. — Schonberg Care, Louisiana’s largest family-owned and operated senior living expert, recently acquired St. Margaret’s at Belleville Assisted Living, growing its presence in the Louisiana senior living industry. The community has been renamed to The Suites at Algiers Point in reverence to the historic, New Orleans neighborhood in which it is housed. Details were shared in a press release.
Purchase of the New Orleans senior living community occurred in early June 2019. The company has recently completed a million-dollar renovation that included design changes, updates and renovations at the community after gathering feedback from residents and their families, as well as employees.

Located on Pelican Avenue, the senior community is approximately five miles east of downtown New Orleans, just a few blocks off the Mississippi River. Originally the Belleville Elementary School, The Suites at Algiers Point offers 53 state-of-the-art assisted living and memory care apartments. Floorplans range from 300 to 800 square feet. Apartments offer a kitchenette, living room, private bath and separate bedroom. A luxurious courtyard patio features fountains and lush tropical landscaping.
On-site services include medication management and administration, licensed nurses and certified nursing aides onsite daily and 24-hour emergency assistance and alert system. Residents can also enjoy private dining and participate in planned social, recreational, cultural, spiritual, fitness and educational activities.

The property has undergone design changes, updates and renovations in the last four months. For this endeavor, Schonberg Care partnered with local partners including Sheri Daigle of SD Design and Joe Boudreaux of JE Boudreaux Services.
The main structure of the original Belleville School – a three-story, red-brick building – was completed in 1898, and wooden annexes were built in 1907 and 1925. The school’s makeover to a senior living community happened in 1989.
