Schneider Will Donate State Senate Salary To Charity

LACOMBE, LA – State Senate candidate Pete Schneider (R-Dist. 1) said if elected to the Senate in October, he will donate his legislative salary to local charities within the district including portions of St. Tammany, Orleans, St. Bernard and Plaquemines parishes.

"With Louisiana's budget woes, every contribution to the state's solvency makes a difference," Schneider said. "With a projected mid-year deficit of more than $100 million, no one factor will solve the problem, but I will do what I can by returning that money to the community I plan to serve."

Schneider and his wife, Elizabeth, have given more than $30,000 a year, on average, to local non-profits and other organization for the last eight years.

"Even 10 years after Hurricane Katrina, the needs in our community are vast and the non-profit sector is one of the most effective vehicles for improving lives and our future," Schneider said. "Non-profits are on the ground, unique to individual communities, and are quickly responsive to local needs. In fact, they are far more deft and efficient than many government programs. Non-profits also stimulate local economies, which is something government typically and historically does very poorly. I look forward to serving in the Senate and to returning more to the people of St. Tammany, St. Bernard, Plaquemines and Orleans Parishes."

Schneider served in the House of Representatives (District 90) from 1992-2008.
