BATON ROUGE – The U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) will celebrate National Small Week by hosting a series of hands-on registration and certifications workshops throughout the month of May. Details were shared in a press release.
Since the inception of "Get Certified" Month a few years ago, SBA has seen an increase in the number of small business registrations in the Federal Government's System for Award Management(SAM) and in woman-owned Small Business, 8(a), HubZone, DBE and SDVOSB/VOSB certifications and verifications. These have positioned these business owners to benefit from the Federal Government's $500 Billion marketplace. Consequently, contract awards to Louisiana firms have increased:
Total LA Firms Small Business Awards
FY 2016 $2,483,308,564 $950,333,951
FY 2017 $2,628,793,158 $1,125,797,656
FY 2018 $2,889,699,723 $1,477,470,754
On each Tuesday during the month of May at the Louisiana Technology Park (7117 Florida Blvd., Baton Rouge), SBA District Office personnel conduct hands-on sessions to assist small businesses in navigating the registration and certifications processes. "Get Certified" Month is held in partnership with the LSBDC at Southern University and the Louisiana PTAC. It's free and open to the public.
