NEW ORLEANS — Mark Ernst has been named assistant general manager of the iconic, newly renovated Royal Sonesta New Orleans hotel. He previously served as the hotel’s food and beverage director. In his new role, Ernst will be second in command to the hotel’s general manager Alfred Groos, and will remain primarily responsible for food and beverage operations, while also overseeing and leading the rooms division of Royal Sonesta New Orleans.
Ernst joined Royal Sonesta New Orleans in March 2014, bringing nearly 30 years of hospitality experience to its team, including 20 years in management. He initially assumed the oversight role for the hotel’s food and beverage offerings, which includes Restaurant R’evolution, Irvin Mayfield’s Jazz Playhouse, Desire Oyster Bar, Le Booze and PJ’s Coffee, as well as full-staff catering services.
“I’m very pleased and look forward to working with Mark in his new position,” said Groos. “His promotion aligns perfectly with the dynamic next phase for Royal Sonesta New Orleans, and I am confident he will bring continued success to our already exemplary service standards.”
Groos added that Ernst’s leadership has been instrumental in positioning Royal Sonesta New Orleans’ entire range of culinary offerings as top dining destinations and go-to experiences in New Orleans. Prior to his time with Royal Sonesta New Orleans, Ernst worked for several years as assistant director of food and beverage at The Roosevelt Hotel in New Orleans, and was a food and beverage director at the San Francisco W Hotel.
“I am thrilled to be stepping into my new role as assistant general manager of Royal Sonesta New Orleans,” said Ernst of his new position. “It is an exciting time for the hotel as we emerge from a significant renovation and continue to deliver innovative guest service. I welcome the new responsibilities and am grateful for the support of our employees and management leadership.”
The Royal Sonesta New Orleans offers 20,000 square feet of meeting and special event space, 483 newly appointed rooms, including 36 suites, and is one of nearly 70 properties within Sonesta.
