NEW ORLEANS – For the 11th year, the newly renovated landmark hotel Royal Sonesta New Orleans will officially usher in the French Quarter holiday season at its highly anticipated Lighting of the Balconies ceremony.
This year’s event will be hosted by WGNO ABC 26’s Kenny Lopez and will take place outside the hotel’s main entrance, at 300 Bourbon St., on Wednesday, Nov. 30, at 6:00 p.m.
Two young patients from Children’s Hospital of New Orleans, Avery Brink and Riheem Westerfield, will ceremoniously “flip the switch” to illuminate thousands of twinkling lights that adorn the hotel’s expansive wrought iron balconies. This year’s show will be packed with plenty of surprises, including appearances by the New Orleans Saintsations, the Saints mascots Gumbo and Sir Saint, along with entertainment designed to make the holiday season bright, hotel reps said. Musical entertainment will feature live performances by Quiana Lynell and her all-stars band. There may also be a certain special visitor straight from the North Pole to make the festivities truly special.
The event has evolved into one of the most popular local celebrations of the season and is free and open to the public.
