“The maritime community is like family to me,” said Barkerding. “I have been involved in the industry for most of my life and have worked to contribute in as many ways as possible both professionally and as a volunteer. I deeply appreciate this honor because the award bears the names of so many who have gone before me and contributed greatly to our industry.”

Barkerding has worked in the maritime industry for more than 50 years. He began his career as a vessel operations officer, then moved on to more senior roles coordinating cargo operations and vessel movements for thousands of foreign flag and U.S. flag vessels in ports throughout the U.S. He also held executive positions handling all aspects of vessel operations for U.S. Gulf of Mexico ports and the ports of New York/ New Jersey.

“Rusty has been a strong advocate for the Louisiana port community over the years and contributed greatly to the growth of the Port of New Orleans as well as ports throughout the U.S.” said Caitlin Cain, CEO of the World Trade Center of New Orleans. “He couldn’t be more deserving of this award, and it’s an honor to recognize him among our industry peers.”
