HARAHAN, LA (AP) — Gov. John Bel Edwards has appointed Jack Rizzuto to fill a vacant seat on the Jefferson Parish Council.
Rizzuto's appointment, announced Thursday, will fill the vacancy left when voters chose former Councilman Ben Zahn as mayor of Kenner.
Edwards, in a statement, described Rizzuto as a "successful businessman, active in the community and committed to helping the people of Jefferson Parish."
Rizzuto is the CEO of Rizzuto Management Group, a third-generation company involved in food and hospitality services. He also serves as a member of the Jefferson Republican Parish Executive Committee and the Alliance for Good Government.
Rizzuto will be sworn into office today at 9:00 a.m. and will hold the seat until a special election scheduled Oct. 14.
