ReNEW Charter Schools Raise Thousands For Students To Visit Colleges

NEW ORLEANS – More than 200 supporters and staff of ReNEW Schools were present on Thursday to celebrate “Future Takes Flight,” the 3rd annual fundraising gala at the Arbor Room in City Park. Guests danced to the music of the Louisiana Spice Jazz Orchestra, dined on food from local restaurants including Dickie Brennan’s Steakhouse and Saucy’s BBQ, and enjoyed cocktails provided by Grey Goose and beer from Abita, while raising money for 400 students to visit colleges and universities across the nation in April, 2015.

ReNEW student Brandy Brown was among those who participated in a trip college trip to Florida, where she met college students and learned what life was like in dormitories and on campus. The experience was formative for Brandy, who already knows in 8th grade that she wants to pursue epidemiology when she attends college.

Among the party guests were Hall of Fame musician David Batiste, City Council Member Jason Williams and honorary co-chair Carol Asher.
