A family-owned real estate development company founded in 1904, Marrero Land and Improvement Association leases and develops industrial, commercial, and residential properties, including shopping centers, industrial buildings, garden offices, and office warehouse buildings on both banks of Jefferson Parish. Its industrial interests include Marrero Industrial Park, Fairfield Business Park, and various stand-alone developments throughout the parish and state. The company has also developed numerous residential subdivisions for the residents of Jefferson Parish, including Louis Park, Plantation Estates, Barkley Estates and Segnette Estates.
What are you most excited about in the coming year?
With Washington promoting the return of manufacturing to the United States, and Baton Rouge changing Louisiana’s story worldwide, it sets the stage for Jefferson Parish to revitalize local economies for the benefit of its residents. The exciting part is that the brewing momentum for new local manufacturing is already knocking on Jefferson Parish’s door, stoking optimism for the future West Bank economy. If word is relayed nationally and worldwide to more CEOs of potential manufacturing interests that Jefferson Parish is open for business and has large swaths of land available for development, we may have the opportunity to participate in any unfolding renaissance.
I’m personally thrilled that my son and his family were able to relocate to Jefferson Parish earlier this year from a neighboring state and I want to see many more young families able to do the same. Manufacturing and industry provide careers that lead to strong communities with vibrant economies that enable our children and grandchildren to stay in the parish they love.
What is the biggest challenge facing your industry today and is anything being done about it?
Misleading or inaccurate weather predictions and stereotypes are sensationalized and promoted by the national media to our detriment. Jefferson Parish celebrated its 200th anniversary in 2025, and its West Bank, where Marrero Land was formed 122 years ago, is fortified against storms by sector gates, walls and levees providing superior protection to our region. The parish also has an excellent sheriff’s department providing exceptional service to its residents and keeping crime rates low. Jefferson Parish is a great place to live and work. Let’s make certain CEOs and their employees considering new locations know the true story about Jefferson Parish.
