What a time we are having! As I write this month’s publishers note (in early March) we are in an all-out virus crisis with events shutting down left and right. My hope is that by the time our April issue hits the street and you read this column, the crisis is behind us and things are looking up.
One thing that I know will not be canceled, is the third wedding in our family. We have three daughters all really close in age and they are in marriage mode all at the same time.
Our daughter Mallary is getting married to a wonderful gentleman named Ryan this month and nothing will stop our families from celebrating this wonderful joy in their and our lives. It will be an out-of-town desti- nation wedding this time, and we hope all those RSVPs continue to come and celebrate this great nuptial blessing.
High school sweethearts, Mallary and Ryan have been together for over 10 years and planned their marriage around Ryan finishing medical school last month and graduating next month. As you can see, careful planning has been orchestrated around the date and the chosen location is outdoors and beautiful.
So, no matter the circumstances as they develop around the virus crisis, we will have a great celebration this month surrounded by loved ones.
Congratulations Mallary and Ryan: You will have a great story to tell throughout your lives together.
“Married during the Pandemic.”
Update as of April 1, 2020
As you just read my Publisher’s Note you can tell we work ahead in this business and sometimes the timing of a story is just not right. Events out of our control divert things and the story as it was written doesn’t happen.
On the evening of Friday, March 13, our entire staff left the office knowing we would work from home the following week but not sure for how long. We did everything we could to prepare for “work from home” but now, just like you, we are in an extended stay-at-home situation.
I have to give our staff great credit for the work they are doing under these circumstances. The teams are pulling together and helping each other out. If you have not seen what will one day be our award-winning content, I ask you to visit the full site of BizNewOrleans.com and our sister site, MyNewOrleans.com and read great writing.
As for the wedding of Mallary and Ryan, I am so proud of my wife and daughter for pulling things together and working overtime to redirect the April wedding to a new date at the same destination in June.
When Ryan proposed to Mallary last year, we celebrated the proposal and engagement party by saying, “Let the adventure begin.” Well, what an adventure we are having.
Now the saying is “A celebration worth waiting for.” I know that the marriage will happen no matter what in June. If the travel plans to our destination are diverted, we will have a marriage with the loving couple here, with an over the top jubilation at the destination they so desired at a later day so everyone can celebrate the adventure.
You may know Mallary works with us at Renaissance Publishing and right now we are sharing the dining room table, which has become our home office. I am proud to sit across from her and see how we work together, and I look forward to many more years of this father-daughter combination.
Mallary, you are handling this situation “like an all-star” and I look forward to that father-daughter Smash Mouth dance.
Stay Safe New Orleans,
Todd Matherne
