In recognition of the key role truck drivers play in trade and in the economy, the Port of New Orleans is hosting a week of events and giveaways in conjunction with National Truck Driver Appreciation Week Sept. 12-16.
Truck drivers will receive complimentary doughnuts and coffee Tuesday, Sept. 13, and Friday, Sept. 16 from 7-9 a.m. at the Port’s Nashville Avenue Circle Building. On Wednesday, Sept. 14, jambalaya, burgers and drinks will be served from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. at the Circle Building. As of press date, partner sponsors for the Port’s driver appreciation events include BIS Construction and Ship Services, Community Coffee, Crescent Transport Inc., Gulf Intermodal Services and Transportation Consultants Inc.
In conjunction with the National Truck Driver Appreciation Week, the Port will also launch the Clean Truck Replacement Incentive Program, or Clean TRIP, an initiative funded by an EPA grant that will allow the Port to work with truck owners to upgrade their older trucks to newer, less polluting engine models (see page 7 for more details).
