NEW ORLEANS – Today, Mayor Mitch Landrieu will join members of the New Orleans City Council, NOPD Superintendent Michael Harrison, NOFD Superintendent Timothy McConnell, union representatives and business community leaders in announcing plans to place a public safety millage on the ballot for voter consideration on April 9, 2016.
Proceeds from the millage are needed to hire and pay for additional police officers to reduce response times and reduce crime and pay firefighters what they are owed as part of pension agreement announced last year.
The announcement is scheduled to take place at 3:00 p.m. at the NOPD 7th District Station, 10101 Dwyer Rd., and Read Blvd.
