NEW ORLEANS (AP) — Tulane University says it's working with a private foundation to create a research center to tackle social problems.
In a news release, Tulane says the center will bring together a broad array of disciplines to look at environmental, education, health care and other issues.
Funding for the center comes from a $15 million gift from the Patrick F. Taylor Foundation. The foundation is the charitable arm of Taylor Energy, an oil and gas company founded by Patrick Taylor.
Phyllis Taylor, Patrick Taylor's widow, runs the foundation. The new center will be called the Phyllis M. Taylor Center for Social Innovation and Design Thinking.
The center will hire its own faculty and sponsor fellowships for visiting professors.
