GRETNA, LA – The Parade of Homes and the New Orleans Education League of the Construction Industry (NOEL) are partnering to help repair an 86-year-old Gretna man’s home as part of its NOEL/Jefferson Joining Forces (JJF) program on Tuesday, June 27, at 9:45 a.m.
Mike Yenni, Jefferson Parish President; Jon Luther, CEO, Home Builders Association of GNO; Tamithia Shaw, director, Jefferson Parish Department of Community Development; community leaders and the homeowner’s daughter, are scheduled to participate in a day of repairs and landscaping with contractors, vendors and community volunteers.
The beneficiary, an 86-year-old widower who has lived in his Gretna home for more than 30 years, was recently cited by the Jefferson Parish Department of Inspection and Code Enforcement for damaged gutters.
An unintended consequence of Jefferson Parish’s beautification mission is that elderly, disabled and/or low-income residents are cited for code violations, which they don’t always have the means to fix. Those homeowners are precisely the ones that NOEL and Jefferson Parish Community Development through the Jefferson Joining Forces (JJF) program, aims to help, reps said.
Homeowners who are cited are eligible for Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funds from the Jefferson Parish Department of Community Development, if they meet minimum criteria. Since the elderly, Gretna homeowner was unable to meet the program’s requirements, the Parade of Homes and NOEL/Jefferson Joining Forces, with the support of local contractors, landscapers and vendors, decided to generously donate time and materials to repair the cited gutters and additional repairs at the home, organization reps said.
Sponsors donating time and materials for the Parade of Homes/NOEL Charitable Repair include: ABC Supply Co., Bevolo Gas & Electric Lights, Bell’s Masonry, Bin There Dump That, Brick & Block Products, LLC, Event Restroom, Jefferson Door, LAS Shutters + Windows, M&M Glass Company, Mullin Landscape Associates, LLC, One Man and a Tool Box, Sherwin Williams, Sweeney Restoration, Tyson Construction and Viking Construction Services, Inc.
