BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) — Louisiana State University sororities and fraternities have finished implementing recommended changes to end dangerous behavior after a freshman died last year while pledging.
The Advocate reports that school officials announced Monday that a panel charged with implementing the changes had completed its work. The panel implemented 28 recommendations provided by a task force that evaluated the school's Greek organizations.
LSU President F. King Alexander created the task force after 18-year-old Maxwell Gruver died in September. A coroner's report said he had "highly elevated" blood-alcohol levels. Witnesses told police Gruver was forced to chug alcohol during a Phi Delta Theta initiation game. Police said he died from alcohol poisoning and choking on his own vomit.
The new rules include banning hard alcohol at fraternity parties and requiring pledge activities to be supervised.
