Owner Seeks $12.5M For Pass Christian Home

PASS CHRISTIAN, MS (AP) — The Pass Christian home of Charles and Nancy Ramsey is the most expensive MLS-listed house in Mississippi at $12.5 million.

"There are a lot of fine qualities to the home," realtor Liz Hanson told The Sun Herald’s Regina Zilbermints. "They have a sitting room with a fireplace and an Italian carved mantel that's just beautiful. The library has beautiful woodwork. It's got a chandelier above the stairwell of the entrance."

The mansion has 25,000 square feet of space, 15 bedrooms, 19 baths and an almost 8-acre lot.

In addition to the main house, there are two unfinished cottages on the property. There is a courtyard and a swimming pool as well.

The home wasn't damaged in Hurricane Katrina in 2005, Hanson said.

The area isn't known for high housing prices and Hanson said she wasn't sure if the home would go to a private owner or a business or organization.

"It's possible that a single family could come in, but more likely it would be for some other type of use," Hanson said. "That's just my personal opinion. It could go for anything."

It's Mississippi's most expensive. According to Realtor.com, its closest competitor, in Flora, is listed for $6.5 million. Then there's one, also in the Pass Christian, priced at $3.8 million.

The house was built in 1963 by J. Edgar Monroe as a second home for himself and his wife, whose favorite place was the Gulf Coast mansion. Monroe also owned the home where the film "The Great Gatsby" was filmed, though the houses differ in style, Hanson said.

In 1993, Charles and Nancy Ramsey bought the house and added two, more-modern, wings onto it. Much of the living space is in the newer additions.
