NEW ORLEANS – Registration is now open for the 5th Annual District Attorney’s Academy, hosted by Orleans DA Leon Cannizzaro.
Organizer Anne Kiefer said, for the first time in the popular program’s history, the Academy will be offering continuing legal education (CLE) credits to attorneys.
The first class begins Tuesday, September 8, 2015, and continues for seven consecutive Tuesdays, from 6:30 – 8:30 p.m., at the Orleans DA's Grand Jury Room, 619 South White St.
The Academy is a community outreach project of the Orleans DA's Office created to ensure the safety of the New Orleans community through the education of citizens in the criminal justice system and how to effectively interact with all its parts.
“Whether they are victims, witnesses, jurors, attorneys, Neighborhood Watch participants, professionals who interact or concerned individuals just wanting to learn more, all are encouraged to attend these information-packed classes,” Kiefer said. “We will teach you what we do and how we do it. All are encouraged to ask questions and grade us on our presentation. We care about the job we do for you.”
DA Cannizzaro will greet the first class and present an overview of the criminal justice system.
This Academy is sponsored by Crimestoppers and Darlene Cusanza, Executive Director, who will also address the class with the DA.
