Open Air Fitness Center Being Built In Ponchatoula

PONCHATOULA, LA (AP) — Construction of an open-air fitness center in a Ponchatoula city park is nearing completion.

Built entirely with donations, Mayor Bob Zabbia says the Wellness Plaza at Ponchatoula's Kiwanis Park has an opening target date of Friday, December 11, 2015. A health fair at the plaza is scheduled at 1:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m. that day with the ribbon cutting at 1:00 p.m.

Zabbia tells The Daily Star’s Jacob Rester the main circle is complete. Walkways still need to be added, and the equipment needs to be delivered and installed.

The idea is to create an open air area for people to exercise. Once complete, Zabbia says a counter will be added that shoots a laser across the entrance to count how many people enter.
