NEW ORLEANS (AP) — The Louisiana Office of Motor Vehicles is testing a program aimed at cutting the time older citizens have to wait to renew driver's licenses and register vehicles.
"Senior Day" will be tested at locations throughout the state, one Saturday per month.
Selected OMV offices will be open only to residents age 60 or older from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. on Nov. 1, Dec. 6, Jan. 10, Feb. 7, March 7 and April 11.
There will be nine participating OMV locations in Alexandria, Baton Rouge, Houma, Lafayette, Lake Charles, Monroe, Shreveport, Slidell and New Orleans.
The New Orleans Advocate reports the move comes as OMV has faced criticism over long wait times amid state budget cutbacks.
