Ochsner Strikes Deal To Base Helicopter In McComb, MS

MCCOMB, MS (AP) — The Ochsner Health System of New Orleans has an agreement with Southwest Mississippi Regional Medical Center to have a helicopter stationed in McComb to transport critically ill patients.

         Southwest administrator Norman Price tells the Enterprise-Journal the agreement take effect early next years.

         Ochsner has had a Flight Care Team since 1984. It maintains a round-the-clock communication center that coordinates helicopter transportation within a 275-mile radius of New Orleans.

         Price said Southwest has 18-20 helicopter flights per month. The hospital has no exclusive agreement with anyone, but calls hospitals in Jackson or elsewhere when a patient needs assistance.
