NEW ORLEANS – At 5:34 p.m. on Tuesday, July 25, the Women’s Pavilion at Ochsner Baptist celebrated its 10,000th delivery since bringing babies back to the hospital in 2013. This blockbuster birth serves as a major milestone for the hospital that serves as a vital resource for the Uptown neighborhood and Greater New Orleans area, reps said. Those passing by the facility on Napoleon Avenue this week will notice a special display on the hospital’s front lawn to commemorate this special occasion.
Weighing in at 6 pounds 8 ounces and 19 inches, Marcella Elizabeth is the second child for Kellie and Jason Maurin. Mom, dad, baby and proud older brother Pascal are all doing well and excited about the newest edition to their family.
To celebrate the 10,000th delivery, Ochsner Baptist CEO Dawn Anuszkiewicz, and other members of the Ochsner Baptist executive team, presented the Maurin family with a basket full of New Orleans gifts, including “Born at Baptist” apparel for their arrival.
“Ochsner Baptist has been welcoming newborns to Uptown New Orleans for over 90 years,” said Anuszkiewicz. “It’s a privilege to care for our patients as they expand their families. We look forward to continuing to serve the New Orleans community as the premier destination for babies and women’s services for years to come.”
Of the 10,000 deliveries at Ochsner Baptist since 2013, 209 of those deliveries have taken place at the Perkin Alternative Birthing Center, the only hospital-based alternative birthing center in the region. At the Perkin Alternative Birthing Center, a staff of certified nurse midwives provides mothers with a natural, holistic birth experience in a home-like environment with comfortable beds and birthing tubs.
Ochsner Baptist has provided quality healthcare to generations of families, a tradition that dates back to 1926, reps said. The Women’s Pavilion at Ochsner Baptist offers services including: OB/GYN clinics, Labor and Delivery, Maternal Fetal Medicine, Women’s Walk-In Clinic and Gynecologic Robotic Surgery, as well as the Level III Regional Neonatal Intensive Care Unit – the highest level designation awarded by the state of Louisiana.
Ochsner Baptist, 2700 Napoleon Ave., is fully accredited and staffed by more than 600 trusted, skilled physicians’ and specialists, featuring a 24 hour emergency department, all-private inpatient rooms, an intensive care unit, state-of-the-art operating rooms and two cardiac catheterization labs, reps said. Ochsner Baptist is also home to a health center with physician’s offices such as primary care, urology, orthopedics, back and spine services, pain management, and many more.
Ochsner women’s services are also available at its hospitals on the West Bank, the North Shore, and in Kenner, Raceland and Baton Rouge, in addition to Ochsner Baptist’s women’s services clinic in Metairie.
