NEW ORLEANS – Ochsner Health System recently announced its first year sponsoring the Allstate Sugar Bowl Crescent City Classic, one of the oldest 10k races in the nation. Starting in 1979, during Easter weekend, the Crescent City Classic has grown to become one of New Orleans signature events.
As the official medical provider of the race, Ochsner physicians, nurses and students from the Ochsner Clinical School will be staffing the medical tent.
The 10-kilometer course begins in Downtown New Orleans on Saturday, March 26, 2016, in front of the Mercedes-Benz Superdome and runs participants through the French Quarter, then all the way up Esplanade Avenue to New Orleans City Park.
“We are proud to be sponsoring this run on the iconic streets of our city,” said David Gaines, CEO of System Retail Services & System Vice President of Public Affairs, Ochsner Health System. “With over 20,000 participants, we welcome both first-timers and veterans to the race and congratulate them on this commitment to good health.”
Ochsner employees and their families will be walking and running the race to raise funds to support Elmwood Fitness Center's “I Can Do It” program, which helps fight childhood obesity through education and fitness.
“Ochsner is a leader in health care in not only our state, but in the country,” says Eric Stuart, Allstate Sugar Bowl Crescent City Classic race director. “We are excited to have such a world-class health care provider as part of our team, not only as a sponsor, but also as an onsite Race Day partner to look out for all of our participants.”
In addition to the 10k, the Crescent City Classic also hosts a two-day Health & Fitness Expo, which is free and open to the public, as well as a post-race party hosted by Michelob Ultra, complete with live music and local Creole cuisine.
