NEW ORLEANS – Joseph Ochipinti was named CEO of UnitedHealthcare-Gulf States Region.
Ochipinti brings over 20 years of health care and financial services experience. As CEO of UnitedHealthcare-Gulf States Region, he is responsible for UnitedHealthcare’s Employer & Individual business driving growth, quality, profitability and overall performance for health benefit plans that serve more than 1.6 million people in Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama. He is based at UnitedHealthcare’s Metairie, LA, office.
Since 2013, Ochipinti served as chief growth officer for the Southeast Region, responsible for sales and membership growth, profitability and account management. He also developed and executed business plans for Small Business, Key Account, Public Sector, Specialty and Individual Exchanges.
Previously, Ochipinti was vice president of Sales of UnitedHealthcare’s Employer & Individual Gulf States Health Plan from 2009 to 2013, and from 2007 to 2009 he led the company’s medical, pharmacy and specialty product strategy in the Southeast Region.
Ochipinti serves on the local and regional boards of the American Lung Association (ALA). He was the ALA Louisiana Board president from 2010 to 2013, during which he helped promote the Signature Lung Force walk in Audubon Park and Lung Force Partnerships with local CVS pharmacies.
In Louisiana, he helped promote lung health and smoke-free environments in collaboration with the LA Tobacco Control Coalition and grass-root speaking campaigns to city councils in Mandeville, Kenner and Alexandria. In 2013 he advocated for the eventual passage of Smoke Free New Orleans, which made all workplaces throughout the city smoke-free.
Ochipinti is a graduate of LaSalle University in Philadelphia with a bachelor of arts degree in Industrial Public Relations. He received his master’s degree from Webster University School of Business & Technology in St Louis, and is a graduate of the Wharton’s School of Business seven-month UnitedHealth Group Executive Development and General Management Program.
