Northshore Health And Fitness Expo, Rock The Road Race To Focus On Fitness, Fun

SLIDELL, LA – The Northshore Health And Fitness Expo, sponsored by Covington Orthopedic, will take place at the Northshore Harbor Center, 100 Harbor Center Blvd., in Slidell, on Saturday, October 17, 2015.

 

         This free and open to the public expo kicks off with the 2nd annual Rock the Road Race featuring a 1 mile fun run, 5K and this year an added 10K race. The 1 mile is set to begin at 8:30 a.m., with the 5K and 10K to follow.

         This fast, flat course has open scenery and beautiful waterfront surroundings. The 5K and 10K courses are USATF & RRCA certification pending, and the 10K will be a qualifier course for the Crescent City Classic. 

         All 5K and 10K race participants will receive a T-shirt and finisher’s medal. Awards will be presented to the top male and female division winners in the 5K and 10K, with the top overall male and female finishers in both races receiving cash awards.

         A trophy and complimentary booth for the 2016 expo will be awarded to the fitness club with the most registrants and a trophy will be awarded to the most represented First Responder Group.

         The post-race party will feature food and drinks compliments of  Michelob Ultra, Covington Orthopedic, Blue Runner, TCBY, Associated Wholesale Grocers, Fresh Market and Canes Chicken Fingers.

         Entry for the race is $20 for the 1 mile fun run/walk, $35 for the 5K, and $40 for the 10K.

         The Northshore Health and Fitness Expo, from 9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m., takes place inside the Northshore Harbor Center, where attendees can browse a variety of vendors and learn about all the current trends in the health and fitness industry.

         This expo will also feature demonstrations, seminars, bounce house, prizes and give-a-ways.

         The “Sweat for Safe Harbor” CrossFit Competition will take place throughout the expo where spectators can get a taste of what the CrossFit community is all about, while raising money for a good cause. Proceeds from this event will benefit Safe Harbor.

         The afternoon brings a free Halloween costume walk and contest beginning at 2:00 p.m. Children ages 0 – 12 (Children 6 and under must walk with an adult) are asked to dressed up in their favorite Halloween Costume for a short walk followed by a costume contest. Prizes will be awarded in a variety of categories.

         SMH has teamed up with St. Tammany Fire District One to bring the Fit as a Firefighter Camp Jr. Firefighter Challenge. This free, interactive obstacle course will run every 30 minutes from 9:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m., for children 7 and up.

         The Blood Center will also host a blood drive throughout the day where donors can learn about their blood type, cholesterol levels and overall health. The Blood Center’s goal is to reach 40 blood donations during the expo.
