NORDC Hiring More Than 100 Summer Lifeguards

NEW ORLEANS — The New Orleans Recreation Development Commission (NORDC) is hiring more than 100 lifeguards for the summer 2016 pool season. All NORDC lifeguards are required to have a lifeguard certification.

         Lifeguard applications are available at the NORDC Milne Campus at 5420 Franklin Ave. or on online.

         The application deadline for the summer season is Friday, April 8, 2016.

         NORDC lifeguards must be at least 16 years old. The base wage is $11.38 per hour for 40 hour work week. Lifeguards are on duty during pool hours, which include mornings, mid-day, evenings and weekends.

• Swim 300 yards

• Tread water for 2 minutes without using arms or hands

• Sprint 15 yards, get a 10 lb. brick from the bottom of the deep end of the pool, swim back to the shallow end and climb out of the pool with the brick in 1 minute and 40 seconds or less.

         Those interested may also take the swim test before completing a job application. Swim tests will be given at Treme Rec. Center at 900 N. Villere St., Sanchez Center Pool at 1616 Caffin Ave., and Joe W. Brown Pool at 5601 Read Blvd., Monday through Friday between 6:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. or Saturdays between 2:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. until Saturday, April 9, 2016.

         Those who pass the swim test will be given an application and be encouraged to sign up for a certification class.

         Uncertified lifeguard job applicants must attend a certification class on Wednesday – Friday, 5:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m., Saturday 9:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. and Sunday 9:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. (must attend all days to be certified).

         Certified applicants must attend a one-day re-certification class.
