NEW ORLEANS – The NOPD is preparing for its annual Halloween candy giveaway.
More than 20 local Walgreens stores have donated hundreds of pounds of candy and the New Orleans Police & Justice Foundation (NOPJF) has donated 1,000 reflective trick-or-treat bags.
Officers will hand deliver the bags to select schools and youth organizations in the city on Monday, Oct. 31, and they will provide students with some Halloween safety tips during a short presentation.
“This activity allows our officers the chance to interact with students and provide them with some safety tips to help them have a safe and fun Halloween,” said NOPD Superintendent Michael Harrison. “It also gives us a chance to talk with young people and let them know that we care about them and we want to do everything we can to keep them safe every day. We appreciate Walgreens and the NOPJF for providing us with the opportunity to reach out to these students.”
The reflective trick-or-treat bags and candy will be distributed to students at various schools and youth organizations by NOPD officers on Halloween. Officers will also give the students some Halloween safety tips as well as some general ways to stay safe every day.
The schools/organizations that will receive bags are:
• Edward Hynes Charter School, 900 Harrison Avenue
• Youth Empowerment Project, 1600 O.C. Haley Blvd.
• KIPP Leadership Primary, 2300 St. Claude Avenue
• Homer Plessy Community School, 2021 Pauger Street
