NEW ORLEANS – Continuing its commitment to provide quality training and career development to all officers, the NOPD graduated 30 officers from Leadership in Police Organizations (LPO) training Friday, Nov. 18. The program is designed to provide officers at every level of the department with the skills necessary to become a successful leader. The intensive, three-week program was developed by the International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP) and centers on the systematic development of leaders at all levels of an organization – the concept of “every officer a leader.”
“We remain committed to providing leadership and professional development opportunities to our officers and continue to invest in our officers and the next generation of leaders in the NOPD,” said NOPD Superintendent Michael Harrison. "This program is an integral part of the police department’s commitment to providing well-trained, quality law enforcement services to the citizens of and visitors to New Orleans.”
Under the direction of Commander Chris Goodly, NOPD Education and Training, the three-week training program teaches officers how to lead both on and off the job and provides invaluable character and career-building experience. This is the ninth LPO class completed since NOPD began providing the training in 2012. To date, the department has trained more than 300 officers. Another 14 officers are LPO-certified instructors and have been approved by the IACP to teach the LPO program.
