NEW ORLEANS – In an effort to show support for the next generation of NOPD officers, Young Leadership Council (YLC) will honor the men and women of NOPD Recruit Classes #174 and #175 at the kick-off of the Wednesday at the Square concert series today, March 2, 2016, at 6:20 p.m., on stage in Lafayette Square, 602 Camp St.
NOPD Superintendent Michael Harrison and members of the NOPD Recruitment Division will also be on-hand to provide information to potential applicants on joining the department.
Class #174 started training on October 28, 2015. Recruits are expected to graduate in late April 2016.
Class #175 started training on December 30, 2015. Recruits are expected to graduate in late June 2016.
Since launching the “Get Behind the Badge” recruitment campaign in 2013, the NOPD, in collaboration with the New Orleans Police and Justice Foundation, has aggressively focused on attracting qualified candidates and improving the application process.
NOPD officials said the Force offers a rewarding career path and a competitive salary and benefits package. Applicants must be at least 20 years of age and have obtained a high school diploma or a state approved G.E.D. The NOPD offers fast-track programs for promising recruits that allow them to earn income while going through the recruitment process.
The Young Leadership Council is a non-profit, non-partisan civic organization created to develop leadership through community projects. Through volunteer-created community projects, YLC recruits and retains young professionals to New Orleans, creating a positive impact on the quality of life in the region. The oldest, independent YPO (young professionals' organization) in the country, YLC has raised more than $25 million to support community projects in and around the New Orleans area since 1986.
