NEW ORLEANS (AP) — Police departments in New Orleans and Bogalusa have been awarded a share of $107 million being distributed through the Office of Community Oriented Policing Services' hiring program to help with creating or protecting a total of 17 law enforcement positions.
U.S. Attorney General Loretta Lynch announced the awards Monday. The New Orleans Police Department will get $1.875 million to fund 15 officers and the Bogalusa Police Department will get $220,846 to cover two officers.
Since 1995, COPS has invested over $14 billion to advance community policing, including grants awarded to more than 13,000 state, local, and tribal law enforcement agencies to fund the hiring and redeployment of approximately 127,000 officers.
