NEW ORLEANS (AP) — New Orleans police and a nonprofit organization have announced a plan to put more security cameras in high-crime areas of the city.
Announced Thursday, it's called the "Adopt-a-Block" program. Police officials and the New Orleans Police and Justice Foundation said churches, businesses and homeowners work with the program to identify neighborhoods where cameras are needed.
Installation is approved on a case-by-case basis. Locations are selected based on crime trends.

The police department says the donor-supported Adopt-A-Block program was launched earlier this summer. Thirty-eight security cameras have been installed in neighborhoods so far.
