Nonprofit Liberty’s Kitchen Expands Its Reach To Downtown Today

NEW ORLEANS – Liberty's Kitchen is expanding to the Downtown New Orleans area. Starting today, Monday, April 24, the nonprofit restaurant will serve breakfast and lunch at the cafeteria on the third floor of the Freeport-McMoRan building at 1615 Poydras St.

Liberty’s Kitchen helps young people access futures that are healthy and sustainable, enabling them to achieve personal and economic independence in adulthood, and provides disconnected youth with workforce and life skills training to become employed and self-sufficient, reps said.

They said the nonprofit addresses the many issues that create barriers to self-sufficiency with wrap-around support including healthcare, mental health, housing, GED completion, parenting issues and financial literacy.

Through Liberty’s Kitchen’s School Nutrition Program, the organization provides undernourished school children with healthy, scratch-made meals prepared fresh onsite at their schools, reps said. By ensuring that low-income students have access to better nutrition and nutrition education in school, Liberty’s Kitchen contributes to the fight to end the epidemic of childhood obesity and increase youth achievement, reps said.

Liberty's Kitchen reps said expanding its program to the new location will offer additional career track options and education through entry-level hospitality training.

         Liberty's Kitchen Downtown will be open from 7:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. Monday – Friday.
