NEW ORLEANS – The Roosevelt New Orleans, A Waldorf Astoria Hotel is seeking nominations for the first ever “Reigning Spirit of the Sazerac.”
One deserving woman in the New Orleans community will be named in September, and honored at this year’s ‘Stormin’ of the Sazerac,’ Friday, September 23, 2016. The one-of-a-kind celebration pays tribute to the women who stormed the Sazerac Bar in 1949 demanding to be served, rendering the Sazerac Bar to be the first bar in New Orleans to allow women on days other than Mardi Gras.
The Reigning Spirit of the Sazerac is a woman embodying strength, determination and courageousness. Similar to her fellow women in 1949, she carries a strong spirit for making a difference in the community. The Roosevelt Hotel asks all to consider admired family members, friends and acquaintances with the right criteria to be named the first Reigning Spirit of the Sazerac.
The woman chosen as Spirit of the Sazerac will receive a VIP table for four at this year’s Stormin’ of the Sazerac event and public recognition of her contribution to the community. She will also serve as one of the judges for the event’s famous fashion show.
The annual celebration recreating the “stormin’” encompasses libations, cuisine and entertainment. The festivities, include a three-course ladies-only luncheon, pop-up fashion shop, timely live entertainment and a juried fashion show competition, all taking place in the famous Blue Room. Following the luncheon and fashion show, the Reigning Spirit of the Sazerac will lead attendees in a second line from the Blue Room to the world-renowned Sazerac Bar, where the spirited day continues with Sazerac cocktails in-hand.
To formally make a nomination, The Roosevelt asks that letters enclosing name, contact information and a description of the nominee be mailed to the attention of Etienne Tardy at The Roosevelt New Orleans, 130 Roosevelt Way, New Orleans, LA 70112.
Upon receipt of all nominations by the closing date of Friday, August 5, 2016, The Roosevelt team will meet to deliberate and decide the titleholder of the first official Reigning Spirit of the Sazerac.
