NOLA Terminal Announces New CEO and VP of Commercial Operations

NEW ORLEANS – On Dec. 18, NOLA Terminal announced two additions to its executive team. The company’s board of directors has named Brian Miles chief executive officer and Allen Newman vice president of commercial operations.

In the river and logistics business for more than three decades, Miles worked for 10 years as a traffic management and logistics specialist in the U.S. Air Force. Then, he shifted his focus from troops and equipment to dry bulk cargo. He moved grain, fertilizer and coal for National Marine Barge Line and MG Transport. He subsequently held vice president of sales positions with United Bulk Terminal and Biehl & Co. shipping agency.

Miles served as executive vice president of American Maritime Services/American Environmental & Industrial Services prior to joining NOLA Terminal. He holds a B.S. in sociology and a master’s degree in transportation. He has served on the boards of Mississippi Valley Trade & Transport Council, American Coal Council and The Coal Institute.

Newman has 30 years of experience in the river and logistics business. He spent 20 years at International Marine Terminal, primarily as traffic manager overseeing scheduling of inbound and outbound barges and vessels. In a subsequent role as logistics manager at United Bulk Terminal, he managed over many tons of incoming cargo and vessels. He also built and managed the terminal’s vessel laycan schedule for more than 170 export vessels and 80 domestic vessels. Prior to joining NOLA Terminal, he was a commercial manager at BIS Construction and Ship Services, where he was responsible for vessel services sales and growth.

“Under the leadership of Brian and Allen, NOLA Terminal is entering a new and fruitful chapter, as we continue to build and expand infrastructure to develop a world-class ship, barge and dock system in Plaquemines Parish,” said Christian Amedee, NOLA Terminal founder and chief operating officer. “They are both fully immersed and well-regarded in the logistics industry and will bring invaluable capabilities and services to our partners and customers in Louisiana and across the country.”

Founded in 2013, NOLA Terminal is a 152-acre multi-purpose terminal located at Mile Marker 59 along the lower Mississippi River in Plaquemines Parish. The company is currently developing a ship and barge dock system with options for dry bulk handling, covered storage and liquid storage.
