No More Extensions for Short Term Rental Licenses

NEW ORLEANS — The City of New Orleans has announced that there will be no additional extensions regarding short-term rental operations. STR Licenses with original expiration dates between March 20 and Sept. 20 were previously extended from the expiration date listed on the face of the permit. These permits will continue to expire as follows:

  • Licenses that expired on March 20 shall not expire until Sept. 20. Licenses that expired on June 25 shall not expire until Sept. 25.
  • Licenses that expired on June 21, shall not expire until Aug. 21. Licenses that expired on Aug. 20, shall not expire until Oct. 20.
  • Licenses that expired on Sept. 20, shall not expire until Oct. 20.
  • In no event shall any license extended under these emergency extensions expire after Nov. 30.

The City is pursuing enforcement actions against illegal or unlicensed short term rental activity. This will include requesting platforms to remove non-compliant listings. The City may request delisting for failing to include a license or application reference number for both an owner and operator license, advertising more bedrooms than are legally permitted, and/or advertising over capacity, among other violations of law. The City will not request delisting for license holders whose license has been extended and whose listings conform with their license or for license holders with pending applications where the listing is otherwise compliant.

Applications can be found online at nola.gov/str and may be submitted by email to str@nola.gov. They will be kept on file in the order they are received until capacity is restored. Applicants are advised to apply for permits as soon as possible. All renewal applications for licenses received before Nov. 30, 2019, must be received in the office no later than Nov. 30, 2020, to remain in compliance regardless of the extensions described above.
