NEW ORLEANS – The Big Easy continues to get accolades as a "best place to visit" for its tricentennial year.
The New York Times has named New Orleans as the No. 1 place to go in the world in 2018.
The newspaper writes: “There is no city in the world like New Orleans. Influences from Europe, the Caribbean, Latin America, Africa and indigenous peoples have made it the ultimate melting pot. And that diversity expresses itself in a multitude of ways that define New Orleans in the American imagination: music, food, language, and on and on. Though it’s been a long recovery from Hurricane Katrina, New Orleans isn’t just back on its feet, it is as vibrant as ever — particularly impressive for a 300-year old.”
This follows recommendations to visit New Orleans this year from travel editors at other major sites.
New Orleans landed in fifth place among the top 18 places to visit in 2018 at Conde Nast Traveler.
New Orleans’ big anniversary was mentioned first by editors at Frommer’s Best Places to Go in 2018, along with a note about how the city hosts 160 festivals each year.
According to the Associated Press, luxury travel magazine Robb Report also listed New Orleans as a top destination in 2018.
