NEW ORLEANS – FestiGals and ABWA Crescent City Connections are partnering to present an enlightening program for women on Tuesday, April 12, 2016, to commemorate Equal Pay Day, a National Council on Pay Equity initiative. Tuesday was selected by NCPE years ago to symbolize how far into the next week women must work to catch up with what men earned the week before.
The event will take place at The Cannery, 3803 Toulouse St., and will feature presentations by FestiGals Founder Diane Lyons, ABWA President Rachel Nunez, and HR & Training Consultant Amy Landry of Willoz Consulting to make women more cognizant of important workforce trends, benefits and salary negotiations that are critical to providing confidence in interviews and achieving equity in the job market. After receiving tips on negotiation techniques, women will have the chance to practice their skills in mock sessions with local HR, recruitment and employment experts.
In addition to the informative program and networking, professional photographer Jeff Strout will provide resume-perfect headshots for $20 and complimentary make-up services will be offered.
At the event, attendees will also enjoy hors d’oeuvres and drink specials, with a complimentary glass of champagne to toast ALL women in the workplace.
The schedule includes:
5:30 Registration
6:00 Negotiation Presentation
6:30 Skill Build with Negotiation Experts and Networking
Amy Landry, PHR, SHRM-CP, said attendees will be given many resources and tools to develop their knowledge and negotiation expertise. She said women make 65 cents per dollar compared to male counterparts, which in the course of a career, could possibly add up to more than $500,000. According to Landry, “It’s astounding that 56% of people never ask for a raise and a University of Texas study revealed that on average, women negotiate for $7,000 less then men,” adding “We’ve come a long way, baby, but we aren’t yet there when it comes to salaries and benefits.”
