NEW ORLEANS – The New Orleans Women & Children’s Shelter is hosting its 3rd annual “There’s No Place Like Home” fundraiser and patron party on Thursday, September 15, 2016, at the New Orleans Jazz Market, 1436 Oretha Castle Haley Blvd.
The patron party, from 6:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. will include classical piano by Andrew Bohren and hors d'oeuvres from Chef Phillip Lopez of ROOT.
The fundraiser will include live music by Soul Brass Band at 7:00 p.m. and Johnny Sketch & the Dirty Notes at 8:30 p.m. There will also be New Orleans cuisine and a silent auction featuring gift certificates to fine dining restaurants, hotels and businesses in the region, as well as special items including jewelry and art through 10:00 p.m.
Event reps said the annual fundraiser helps New Orleans Women & Children’s Shelter further its mission of helping homeless women and children escape poverty and transition to self-sustainability. Proceeds from the event will benefit the Oscar J. Tolmas Children’s Sheltering Fund at the New Orleans Women & Children’s Shelter, which helps provide for the needs of the homeless children that the Shelter serves.
Since the relocation of the Shelter in early 2014 to the old Liberty House in Central City, New Orleans Women & Children’s Shelter has more than doubled in size. It now serves twice the number of women and four times the number of children. The Shelter has served more than 1,050 women and children since 2007 and continues to stay filled to capacity. A large majority (95%) of the children at the shelter are under the age of 10. An amazing 80% of the families helped since 2007 have transitioned to sustainable, independent living.
Recognizing the needs of every child, the Shelter has implemented a comprehensive children’s case management program and an after-school education and enrichment program, Shelter reps said.
General tickets for the fundraiser are $60 ($45 for young professionals, ages 35 and under) and $250 for VIP sponsors (includes the patron party). Sponsorship opportunities are also available at the $500 and $1,000 levels.
