New Orleans Touts Latest Police Crisis Training Class

NEW ORLEANS (AP) — The New Orleans Police Department is marking the graduation of its latest group of officers trained to recognize and deal with people who have mental health disorders.

The group graduating Thursday is the ninth class to receive what is known as Crisis Intervention Team training. The training includes visitation and exposure to mental health facilities, lectures from mental health experts and interaction with individuals with mental illnesses. There is also scenario-based training in "de-escalating" situations involving people with mental health disorders.
