NEW ORLEANS – The Ruby Slipper Café will soon open its first location in Baton Rouge. The Ruby Slipper Café owners said they will transform the former Pei Wei, at 3535 Perkins Rd., in Acadian Village Springs Shopping Center, and open to the public in Spring 2017, per permit approvals. This will mark The Ruby Slipper Café’s sixth restaurant in Louisiana. The Café also has locations in Orange Beach, Alabama and Pensacola, Florida.
“Our Ruby Slipper family is looking forward to expanding to Baton Rouge,” Jennifer Weishaupt, owner of The Ruby Slipper Café, said. “We are excited to share our own brand of Southern charm with another great Louisiana community.”
Café reps said patrons can expect the café’s classic menu featuring its signature twists on old Southern favorites, including the award-winning BBQ Shrimp & Grits and Eggs Cochon. These dishes, as well as the café’s eye-opening cocktails are some of the many reasons the café continues to be included on “best of” lists across the Gulf South, café reps said.
“The Ruby Slipper Café is a destination in New Orleans and on the Gulf Coast,” Weishaupt said. “We hope to continue to spread our flavors as we join the Baton Rouge community.”
To shorten wait time when visiting, patrons can download and use the Nowait app. The Ruby Slipper Café also delivers via UberEATS in New Orleans; customers can order online or with the app to have food brought right to their door.
The Ruby Slipper Café is a family-owned and operated business and open to serve diners 363 days a year at five New Orleans locations (Marigny, Mid-City, Canal Street, CBD on Magazine Street and Uptown on Magazine Street), as well as locations in Baton Rouge, Pensacola, Florida and Orange Beach, Alabama.
The Ruby Slipper Café was inspired by a powerful sense of homecoming when returning to New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina and has expanded across the Southern Gulf Region since opening in 2008, café reps said.
The Ruby Slipper Cafés are open weekdays 7:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. and weekends 7:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.
