NEW ORLEANS — On Tuesday, November 17, 2015, at 7:00 p.m., the New Orleans Pelicans recognized the recent achievements of New Beginnings Schools Foundation (NBSF) during its game against the Denver Nuggets. Students and staff from Pierre A. Capdau Charter School, Gentilly Terrance Charter School, Medard H. Nelson Charter School and Lake Area New Tech Early College High School were in attendance.
The Pelicans recognized Lake Area principal Darren Lewis. Under his leadership, Lake Area has been named a Newsweek Top High School, continues to exceed state average graduation rates and graduates are awarded more than $3 million annually in scholarships. Most recently, Lake Area has been named a 2015 Louisiana Top Gains School.
“We thank the Pelicans organization for recognizing the work of our outstanding students, teachers and staff,” said Sametta Brown, CEO of New Beginnings School Foundation.”
Medard H. Nelson Charter School Marching Band also performed during the pregame show at last night’s basketball game in the Smoothie King Center. In addition, NBSF leadership presented the official game ball.
Tuesday night’s game was one of New Orleans Pelicans’ Community Nights in which they recognize local schools and raise funds via ticket sales.
