New Orleans' Own Anthony Mackie To Reign As Bacchus

NEW ORLEANS (AP) — New Orleans native and critically-acclaimed actor Anthony Mackie will reign as Bacchus XLVIII in the glitzy parade held the weekend before Fat Tuesday.

         The Krewe of Bacchus captain, Clark Brennan, announced Mackie as king on Friday. He says Mackie is a "local success story and a great representative of the rich art, culture and music talent" found in New Orleans.

         Mackie is known for his roles in the Marvel franchise films Captain America: The Winter Soldier, The Avengers: Age of Ultron and Antman.

         Bacchus' parade theme is "Flights of Delight." More than 1,400 riders will board 31 floats that will roll Sunday, Feb. 7. Bacchus will also carry out its theme through custom throws including special doubloons and foam creations.

         Previous kings include Will Ferrell, Jim Belushi and Drew Brees.
