NEW ORLEANS – For the first time in the history of Odyssey, the New Orleans Museum of Art produced three events in a year-long odyssey of visual arts, music and entertainment.
Odyssey 2015, presented by IBERIABANK and WDSU-TV, is NOMA’s signature event that raises funds for the museum to present world-class exhibitions and arts programming. This year’s Odyssey Chairs are Robin Burgess and Terence Blanchard.
In the spring, Odyssey 2015 kicked off on International Jazz Day, Thursday, April 30, 2015, with a jazz brunch featuring Grammy Award-winning artists Terence Blanchard and Poncho Sanchez at NOMA. The public was invited to enjoy a free concert on the steps of NOMA.
On the evening of Wednesday, November 11, sponsors are invited to an evening featuring a special performance by Monica Mancini leading up to the gala.
On the evening of Friday, November 13, Grammy Award-winning artist Patti Austin will perform following a black-tie seated dinner, and DJ Soul Sister will host a ticketed After Party until 1:00 a.m.
The evening will be inspired by NOMA’s fall exhibition, Visions of US: American Art at NOMA, featuring masterworks of American art from NOMA’s permanent collection including painting, sculpture, photographs and decorative arts, dating from the 18th century to the 1980s. Some of the artists featured include John Singleton Copley, Ansel Adams, John Singer Sargent, Jackson Pollock, Andy Warhol, Robert Rauschenberg and Chuck Close.
The New Orleans Museum of Art, founded in 1910 by Isaac Delgado, houses nearly 40,000 art objects encompassing 4,000 years of world art. Works from the permanent collection, along with continuously changing temporary exhibitions, are on view in the museum's 46 galleries Fridays from 10:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m.; Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.; and Saturdays and Sundays from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
The adjacent Sydney and Walda Besthoff Sculpture Garden features work by over 60 artists, including several of the 20th century's master sculptors. The Sculpture Garden is open seven days a week, from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Monday through Friday, and 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.
The New Orleans Museum of Art and the Besthoff Sculpture Garden are fully accessible to handicapped visitors and wheelchairs are available from the front desk.
