New Orleans Health Department’s Fit NOLA Initiative Announces December Healthy Hero

NEW ORLEANS – To round out the 2016 Healthy Heroes, the New Orleans Health Department’s Fit NOLA Initiative, Whole Foods Market New Orleans, Rock and Roll NOLA and Athleta announced Kimisha Sawyers as the recipient of the December 2016 Healthy Hero Award. A “Healthy Hero” is a New Orleanian dedicated to improving the physical and nutritional wellness of their community.

"The Health Department’s Fit NOLA initiative is creating cross-sector partnerships that identify and assist residents with connections to healthy options," Dr. Marsha Broussard, Director of the New Orleans Health Department, said. “Congratulations to our December winner who joins us in taking action to reach our goal of fostering a culture of health in New Orleans.”

“As a parent I feel a strong sense of commitment to create a culture of health in New Orleans,” Sawyers said.

Her goal is to provide preventative resources to address health disparities within the New Orleans community. Through teaching cultural awareness, physical fitness and how to make healthier food choices, Sawyers is well on her way to creating a more equitable New Orleans. She founded Clean Course, LLC, which provides wholesome, nutritious and delicious meals to suit everyone from the busy, rare gym-goers to the fitness junkies, and everyone in between. Sawyers also offers four boot camp classes throughout the week and offers personal training services to her clients.

As the December Healthy Hero, Sawyers will receive recognition from the Fit NOLA partnership, a Whole Foods Market gift card, a shopping party held at Athleta, a personal FitPro Stylist to service up to 25 guests, workout attire and a complimentary entry into the Humana Rock ‘n’ Roll New Orleans marathon.

Fit NOLA will relaunch the Healthy Hero January 2017. The deadline for entries will be Friday, Dec. 30.
