New Orleans’ Flow Tribe and Norman Robinson Take Stage at YLC Role Model Awards Gala

NEW ORLEANS – The Young Leadership Council (YLC) announced in a press release that journalist Norman Robinson will emcee the 33rd Annual Role Model Awards Gala on Sep. 14 at The Fillmore New Orleans. Following their acclaimed performance at the spring 2019 YLC Wednesdays at the Square concert series, local band Flow Tribe will serve as the entertainment headliner of the evening.

Robinson, a retired journalist from New Orleans, was a fixture on WDSU, WWL, and WWVU beginning in the 1970s. His career was marked by his tough, tenacious and straight-forward interviewing style, which became nationally recognized. Robinson retired in 2014, and YLC is proud to have honored him as a member of the 1992 YLC Role Model class.

Flow Tribe’s unique musical offerings are a blend of Second Line brass and Cuban-Caribbean rhythms melding with R&B, soul, rock, and hip-hop. Their singular sound, which they describe as “backbone-cracking music,” is quintessential of the New Orleans’ influence on their styling. Flow Tribe is currently building Downman Sounds, a state-of-the-art studio in New Orleans, and are working on their upcoming two-part EP.

About the YLC Role Model Awards Gala

Annually since 1986, YLC has selected a class of outstanding New Orleanians who serve as role models by actively contributing to the betterment of the Greater New Orleans region. These individuals are an inspiration to YLC’s young professional members and to the community at large.

Each year’s class of honorees is selected by a committee including members of YLC’s Board of Directors and past YLC Role Model Award recipients. Honorees are selected based on significant contributions to their field of work and to New Orleans. Notably, a person can only receive the honor of YLC Role Model once in his or her lifetime.
