New Orleans Fish House Supports Local Seafood Sustainability Initiative, Sponsors Scales & Ales Tonight

NEW ORLEANS – New Orleans Fish House (NOFH) is a new sponsor for Scales & Ales that takes place tonight, Friday, Sept. 29, from 8:00 p.m. – 11:00 p.m.

Attendees will enjoy food and drinks from more than 50 food and beverage vendors and a live performance by The Molly Ringwalds at the fundraiser held at the Audubon Aquarium of the Americas that benefits, among other Audubon Institute conservation efforts, Audubon’s Gulf United for Lasting Fisheries (G.U.L.F.) sustainable seafood initiative.

G.U.L.F. works on a variety of sustainability projects including several efforts with the shrimp industry. NOFH was invited to participate in this important economic and environmental initiative because of its unique vantage point on the seafood industry as a large-volume supplier with more than 30 years of experience serving the Gulf Coast, reps said.

NOFH national retail director Mike Ketchem has been named a member of the Chain of Custody Technology Advisory Committee that assists with the development and maintenance of traceability of products certified to the G.U.L.F. Responsible Fisheries Management Certification Scheme.

“Looking at supply issues, you see how a sustainable plan is essential,” said Ketchem. “If our kids, grandkids, and great grandkids are to have the same quality seafood, we must be smart now. This issue matters to all of us at NOFH, and all of us in this community.”

“Mike is one of the first people we met when we started the G.U.L.F. program five years ago,” said John Fallon, G.U.L.F.’s assistant director. “He and New Orleans Fish House provide vital support for our efforts to ensure the sustainability of Gulf of Mexico seafood.”
