THIS WEEKEND
Sunday, Oct. 8 – Tropical Storm Nate projected to make landfall around southeast Louisiana – near New Orleans – in the early hours of the morning, before moving inland into states around Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia, Tennessee, North and South Carolina, and Virginia, expected to have strengthened to hurricane levels before it does so but to weaken to tropical depression status as it passes over the land. Previous forecasts have included maximum sustained winds of nearly 45 mph (plus higher gusts) and up to 10 inches of rain (with isolated maximums of around 15 inches), a storm surge of up to three feet above normal tide levels, 'large and destructive' waves, and possible 'life-threatening' flash floods, mud slides, and surf and rip current conditions.
