Aug. 28 – KATRINA – THANK YOU — City of New Orleans to hold a tribute event to thank first responders, corporate and philanthropic leaders, foreign nations and volunteers for supporting New Orleans' recovery. Aug. 29 – KATRINA-COMMEMORATION — West Jefferson Medical Center commemorates 10th anniversary of Hurricane Katrina, 11:00 a.m. Location: West Jefferson Medical Center, front lawn, 1101 Medical Center Blvd., Marrero.

 

Aug. 29 – KATRINA – COMMEMORATION II — New Orleans City Council District E Councilman James A. Gray II invites all to a 10th anniversary Katrina Commemoration. U.S. Reps. Nancy Pelosi and Cedric Richmond are among the speakers on the program. A silent procession to the Katrina Monument (Tennessee and Reynes Streets) for a wreath-laying ceremony will be held along with the Lower Ninth Ward Resilience Festival, 11:00 a.m. Location: Pete Sanchez Community Center, 1616 Caffin Ave.,

 

Aug. 29 – KATRINA – PARADE — As part of the Katrina 10 commemorations, the Foundation for Louisiana will co-host traditional second line parades:

 

5:15 p.m. – Location: Booker T. Washington High School, 1201 S. Roman St., New Orleans.

 

5:30 p.m. – Location: Louis Armstrong Park (corner of Basin and S. Peters streets), New Orleans.

 

The two parades will meet at Charity Hospital then march to an event at the Smoothie King Center, New Orleans. When that event ends, the parades will march to a public block party, 6:30 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. Location: Ashe Cultural Arts Center, 1712 Oretha Castle Haley Blvd., New Orleans.
