New Orleans a Top Destination For Millennials, Report States

NEW ORLEANS – Today, Business Insider Singapore published a report listing the top 11 U.S. Cities where millennials are moving in droves, and New Orleans is in that number.

Data used to track millennials’ movements came from personal finance company SmartAsset, real-estate analytics firm RCLCO and mortgage software firm Ellie Mae.

New Orleans’ millennial population grew by more than 5,000 people from 2010 to 2015, an increase of 8.5%, according to RCLCO.

The report states that while big cities like New York and Washington D.C. have historically attracted young people looking to get their start, factors such as rising real-estate prices and high job competition have sent millennials searching for other places in the United States to call their home.

Other Southern cities on the list are Charlotte, North Carolina, Norfolk-Virginia Beach, Memphis, Tennessee, Austin, Texas and Owensboro, Kentucky.
